Mid-Season Photo Tour

It’s a busy time of year. The perennial crops are doing awesome. The annual veggies? Well, we lost a LOT to slug damage during an unusually wet May and June. Dozens of broccoli and cauliflower plants were just decimated. I’m honestly glad we didn’t plant more, because the loss would’ve been even greater. It’s like the universe put a big “X” on all our high maintenance crops. Not this year. Just let the perennial crops do their thing.

We had a bumper crop of strawberries and rhubarb. Fruits are forming on berry bushes and trees. Cooking herbs and herbal teas are growing like (wanted) weeds. And a few annual crops are doing all right: tomatoes, peas, carrots, purple kale, potatoes.

I’ll let the Microfarm Photos speak for themselves below this post...

But more importantly… Yes, Mattie is still alive—beating her life expectancy by two months now and enjoying life in her yard, on the trail, and at her favorite stores. She has a fan club at our local city park, where dozens of moms and their kids know her by name now.

We are learning a TON about ancestral diets for dogs and how that can keep cancer at bay for a while—even aggressive bone cancers like hers. We are feeding her lightly cooked, species-appropriate food, in line with recommendations shared at KetoPetSanctuary. Not only is Mattie’s immune system beating back the cancer, some other health problems have cleared up too. In short, she’s doing awesome.

Every day with Mattie is a gift. Everything we learn about cancer and processed dog food (kibble) has made us even more committed to ancestral eating—for both us AND our pets. I won’t geek out on all that here, but if anyone is interested just ask! (I wish I’d known these things when Mattie was younger. I never would have fed her kibble.)

Anyway, enjoy the mid-season photos. So much to be grateful for!
